A HISTORY OF GROWTH
A FUTURE OF POSSIBILITIES
Founded in 1953, Washington Inventory Services began as a pioneer in grocery inventory services and became the first company to offer inventory solutions on a nationwide scale in the U.S. The company initially specialized in servicing grocery stores, then expanded into pharmacies within grocery stores, followed by major drugstore chains. By the late 1970s and early 1980s, it had further broadened its reach into retail stores, home improvement centers, warehouses, and distribution centers.
Early counting services relied on recording devices with manual transcription, eventually evolving to modified calculators. In 1973, the introduction of UPC barcodes revolutionized the process, with barcode adoption accelerating rapidly throughout the grocery industry in the 1980s. Over time, the company continued to evolve—embracing new technologies, expanding into additional sectors, and enhancing its service offerings. Today, known as WIS International, it stands as a global leader in inventory and retail solutions, and is the largest international company providing these services worldwide.

Washington Inventory Services is founded by Jack Washington in San Diego, CA—the 1st inventory company with national coverage
1967
Western Inventory Services is founded by Ray Wesenberg in Vancouver, BC—the 1st inventory company with national coverage in Canada.
1990
Introduced Merchandising Services as a new offering.
1992
International Growth: Washington Inventory Services expands into UK and Mexico.
1995
Launched Power Partners, a hybrid inventory model where clients participate in the counting process.
1999
Developed the WISard, a proprietary handheld device to improve inventory accuracy and efficiency.
2000
Integrated RFID Technology into the counting process to enhance speed and precision.
2005
Washington Inventory Services and Western Inventory Services unify under a single name, WIS International due to the shared “WIS” acronym.
2010
Expanded offerings to include Space Mapping Services for retail optimization.
2018
Acquired Dealer Solutions Inc., Product Connections, and Lawrence Merchandising Services to broaden capabilities.
2021
Acquired RGIS U.S. & Canada, becoming the World’s Largest Inventory services provider.
Acquired CROSSMARK, expanding reach into sales and marketing services.
2023
Partnered with AccuratS for Latin America, Fairson for Europe and Acrebis for Asia Pacific expansion.
2024
Launched FlexCount, a self-service inventory counting platform, expanding service offerings.
